In Gurgaon, 28 additional individuals tested positive for dengue between Wednesday and Friday, bringing the total number of cases this year to 83. Doctors believe that the recent rains could lead to a significant increase in the number. The health department has sent 20 samples for serological testing to identify the viral strain.

According to Dr. Rajiv Dang, senior director, department head of internal medicine, and medical director at Max Hospital, the increase in dengue cases is probably due to water collection in some areas and an increase in Aedes insects, which frequently bite people on their legs or lower bodies. Hence, people should cover their lower bodies, even in the warm and humid atmosphere.

Experts have requested people to remove stagnant water from containers during the rainy season, to locate and get rid of mosquito breeding areas. They reported that common dengue symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and a measles-like rash. The health department has located 18 dengue hotspots in the district and conducting anti-larvae and fogging campaigns.

The municipal corporation has set up a control room where individuals can call for assistance. To identify dengue cases more quickly, the governments health and medical facilities have established nighttime outpatient sections open daily from 3 to 7 pm.

Dr. Dang stated that the majority of patients who experience a high fever on the first or second-day test positive for dengue. Any patient admitted on Day 2 might need to stay in the hospital for three to four days since platelets must be replaced frequently.  (The Times of India, Sep 24, 2022)
